Introduction to Fabulous Physics

Fabulous Physics is a textbook I wrote to address the ever-increasing need for a suitable textbook to go along with my teachings of Physics as a subject at school as well as to fill the void of an easily understandable, well written and enjoyable textbook on the subject.

Even though the book is written at the level of Key Stage 3, that means students aged between 11 – 14 years, my 25 years of teaching experience has thought me that students struggling at higher levels, such as GCSEs (aged between 14 – 16 years) and A-Level (aged between 16 – 18 years), are unable to grasp the materials at their level without understanding of lower-level material. I often have to refer GCSE and A-Level students to lower-level material, especially Key Stage 3.

The concept is simple, how can one understand the advanced materials of a subject without first understanding the Basics of the subject.

Excerpt

Welcome to Fabulous Physics. Before we go any further, let’s make sure that we have a basic idea of what the word Physics really means and what Physics really is.

“The word Physics comes from the Greek word physis, which means nature or natural things.”

Physics is a subject which, basically, provides you with very useful information about the universe around you and the sort of “rules” that it follows.

These rules, or ways in which the universe works, do not just affect things here on Earth, but just about anywhere you care to look – including the Moon, the planets and the stars!

So – you could say that physics is a very “far-reaching” subject. Whatever you do – it is certainly very useful to know something about it.
